Description
The Village Hall at Otford, designed by Sir Edwin Lutyens, is show well by the two accompanying photographs. Its planning is simple; the platform end can be divided from the main part of the hall by doors to make a separate room, and there is a small kitchen with gas stove, so that refreshments can be prepared. (Country Life, 1919, p.447)The church hall is a much better example of a simple building designed so that it does not hector its simple companions, but managing to get the proportions just right too. No wonder; for Lutyens himself designed it, in 1909. His brother was the vicar of Otford. (Pevsner, 2012, p.442)
