Fouquiéres Churchyard Extension

Description

The extension of the local churchyard lies on a higher piece of ground that is separated from the road by means of an embankment with plants. In the embankment, a monumental stairway divides into two stairways, which issue on to either side of the central plot. The field consists of two levels that are connected via a small triangular stairway between two flower boxes. The Cross of Sacrifice stands in front of a grove with two benches. Unusually, the War Stone has been placed on the west side. The current maples follow the edges of the cemetery that border the churchyard. There is a natural stone toolhouse in the corner of the cemetery. (Geurst, 2010, p.301)
