Description

Marvells. 1 m. nne. 1926–7 by Lutyens, commissioned by Vita Sackville-West for the illustrator George Plank. Modest red brick Neo-Georgian, the homely front door with a broad hood on heavy shaped brackets with the initials GP. Catslide roof at the back with a dormer with sash windows either side of an arched niche. Later weatherboarded extension to the n. (Antram, 2013, pp.285-6) Designed by Sir Edwin Lutyens for the American artist, George Plank, and built in 1926-7. One of Lutyens’s smaller houses in the Georgian manner. Two storeys. Six windows. Red brick. Hipped tiled roof. Sash windows with glazing bars. Doorway with wide hood over supported on scroll brackets with the initials “G.P.” for George Plank. Small L-shaped later addition behind, faced with weather-boarding. (Historic England, list entry 1028205)
