Stockton House

Gazetteer No. G0437

Date 1927

Address Stockton, Wiltshire BA12 0SQ England

Description

The interior is exceptionally rich in plasterwork and fireplaces, although the hall (nw) is an exception. Not the original hall (that was the sw room), this was a lavish Neo-Jacobean creation of 1877–82, all swept away in 1927 for Oswald Falk, the economist, probably by Lutyens, when the big c16 fireplace was brought in. Moulded with haunched jambs, and shelf with Perp panel motifs. Imported c16 doors. (Orbach et al, 2021, p.663)
