Description

ST JOHN THE BAPTIST. – In the far NW corner of the churchyard two travertine marble TOMBS for wealthy Australians, showcasing the best and worst of Lutyens’s monumental classicism. – Mrs Julia Eleanor Clark (of Windlesham Moor) †1934 has a sublime altar with exquisite abstract curves at the base. William Baillieu †1936 also has a plinth but supporting a frame of Doric columns and entablature above a tazza. (O’Brien et al., 2022, p.739)
