Description

Nos. 37 and 36, also bomb-damaged, were reconstructed in 1951 as flats and offices respectively. No. 37 is of 1925, by E.A. Remnant for Viscountess Grey of Fallodon. Its horizontals and general mood derive from Lutyens’s No. 36, of 1911 for Reginald McKenna of the Midland Bank. This is of thin grey brick with red brick dressings, Gibbs surrounds on the ground floor, and a continuous stone band like a tide-mark just below the piano nobile. Some interiors remain, e.g. the butler’s room, with reset panelling and Doric pilasters halved either side of the wall recesses. (Bradley & Pevsner, 2003, p.718)
